The Big Ten Results from the Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics

Boulder, CO - January 18, 2012 - From new research for frontcountry settings and a Hot Spot outside of Los Angeles to 37 community-based Backyard Sessions and Service/Learning projects in communities across the country, the Center is making strides in your backyard.

Mount Rainier 2011 Hot Spot Outcomes

Boulder, CO - October 25, 2011 - The Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics recently completed work at Mount Rainier National Park's Paradise Area, a 2011 Leave No Trace-designated "Hot Spot." Located in Washington, Mount Rainier National Park receives up to two-million visitors a year. At Paradise, the most heavily visited area of the park containing 26 miles of trails, recreation-related impacts have been severe. Miles of additional social trails and damage to subalpine meadows caused by off-trail travel have resulted.

Hickory Ridge Camp celebration kick's off with Leave No Trace training

Lake Red Rock, Iows - July 22-23, 2011 - The public is invited to celebrate the successful protection of Hickory Ridge Camp at Lake Red Rock, July 22-23, with a weekend of free outdoor fun and outdoor training.

From Friday afternoon through Saturday evening, the camp project’s partners will host a variety of activities as part of the camp’s official opening and dedication. One of the weekend’s special highlights will be a series of short workshops led by national staff of Leave No Trace — a national nonprofit organization that promotes responsible enjoyment and active stewardship of the outdoors.

Leave No Trace designates Mount Rainier as 2011 Hot Spot

Boulder, CO - May 6, 2011 - The Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics has selected Mount Rainier National Park’s Paradise Area as a Leave No Trace Hot Spot. Located in Washington, Mount Rainier is an extremely popular park, receiving 1.5 to 2 million visitors each year. The park hosts the tallest volcano and the most heavily glaciated peak in the contiguous United States receiving over 10,000 summit attempts annually.  

Leave No Trace in Your Backyard

Boulder, CO - April 1, 2011 - The Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics has introduced a new series of Backyard Sessions, designed to support communities increase Leave No Trace programs on the ground as well as environmental stewardship efforts. The free Sessions comprise of fun, social and educational events conducted around the country through 2011, with the goal of inspiring communities to learn more about and incorporate Leave No Trace on their public lands, in their schools, outdoor clubs, youth organizations, and more.

Fetzer Wine Partners with Leave No Trace for a Good Cause

Boulder, CO - March 3, 2011 - A commitment to environmental stewardship prompted an innovative partnership between the Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics and Fetzer
Vineyards. Between the months of March to May, for every person who joins the Leave No Trace Cause or "likes" the Fetzer Facebook page, Fetzer will donate $1 to Leave  No Trace. The contribution will support  Leave No  Trace's work to reach hundreds of  thousands of people this  year, with vital environmental education to help them enjoy the outdoors responsibly.

Connect Grants Impact 25,000 People in 2010

Boulder, CO - February 1, 2011 - Connect Grants are primarily focused on providing support and training to people and organizations that work with culturally diverse communities. The Center aims to reach ethnic groups, which have not had any prior exposure to the Leave No Trace program, and create a Leave No Trace community more representative of the general population. Twenty-two grants were awarded in 2010 and the program exceeded its goal of reaching 25,000 people.

Leave No Trace e-tour provides outdoor skills and ethics training to children and families this summer

State Parks Forge New Environmental Partnership

September 28, 2007 (Richmond, VA) — The National Association of State Parks Directors, composed of the leaders of America’s fifty state park systems and Puerto Rico, and the Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics, a nonprofit organization that teaches outdoor environmental skills and ethics, just signed a formal partnership agreement. The agreement is intended to engage individual state parks around the country with Leave No Trace on-site educational programs.
